Paddy McGuinness reveals hotel staff thought he was in a relationship with Peter Kay
PADDY MCGUINNESS says hotel managers believed he was in a same-sex relationship with his best friend Peter Kay.
The comedian accompanied the Car Share star’s first stand-up tours to experience what life was like on the road and learn his craft as an actor.
And since childhood buddies barely made any money back then, they often ended up staying in the same hotel room – and sometimes in the same bed.
After telling the front desk that they had no problem settling in together, recalled their reaction: “Warn the awkward pause and the ‘they must be gay’ looks before you get the key.” “
Later in their careers, the pals met in the same hotel room.
Unbeknownst to them, they both worked in London and had booked connecting rooms.
After making the discovery, Kay entered Paddy’s room, completely naked, only for his adjoining door to close behind him and lock him up.
Recalling the conversation with the front desk, Paddy said, “I have one of the country’s most beloved comedians in my room with his ass outside.
“Can you let him go into his room please?” “
Kay gave Paddy his big chance in comedy, casting him in his first solo TV project The Services – his first acting role.
He went on to star in Kay’s Channel 4 sitcom Phoenix Nights – playing bouncer Patrick O’Shea – which spawned the cult spin-off Max and Paddy’s: Road To Nowhere.
