Australia’s first 1 hotel under construction in Melbourne
Melbourne’s Northbank area will be home to Australia’s first hotel and 1 homes from SH Hotels and Resorts as part of a $550 million project by Riverlee.
The 18-story development will feature 120 luxury hotel-branded residences atop 277 rooms.
The 1 Hotel brand is centered on ‘eco-luxury’ tourism, targeting those seeking a luxurious lifestyle and who appreciate sustainable design and architecture.
The hotel company currently has eight properties across North America, and one in Haitang Bay, Sanya (APAC) with more to open in London, Paris and Crete. These will be Melbourne’s first international serviced apartments.
Since October, there have been $30 million in sales and bookings of residences at Seafarers.
Riverlee development director David Lee said the construction signified confidence in both the luxury apartment market and the hotel sectors.
“Seafarers will be a place for all Melburn residents and visitors alike as a new waterfront destination that brings Northbank to life,” he said.
“After two difficult years for everyone, we are proud to have reached this point as we continue to stimulate the local economy through the continued creation of jobs, housing and tourism.
The project will be built by Icon, backed by Japanese firm Kajima, and is expected to provide a total of 1,023 full-time construction jobs and around 680 jobs when completed.
Icon CEO Evan Byrne described it as a “historic” project for Melbourne.
“The groundbreaking ceremony is an exciting milestone for the development and we look forward to bringing this world-class destination to life,” said Byrne.
Construction of Seafarers is expected to be completed by mid-2024.
